Very Close Analysis Due October 28

Part One (20 points): Choose a visual line from Act One and write a one page CLOSE analysis of that line. This paper is meant to teach your audience how important this line is in the understanding of a particular character, motive, or conflict. You may also come across some of Shakespeare's intentions, the religious atmosphere of the 1500's, or Biblical/Mythological allusions.

NO PAPER ACCEPTED WITHOUT OUTLINE: And for this paper, you will absolutely need to spend time planning out what you can talk about (without summarizing) in just one page.

Analyze: Break the quote down word by word paying special attention to why certain words carry more meaning than others.
Synthesize: Explain how this quote reveals more about the character. Compare this line to earlier lines by the same character. Contrast this line to a different characters's line in the same scene. Identify any irony or deeper conflict that the audience can see but other characters may not recognize.
Evaluate: Use this line to predict future events in the play, anticipate any conflicts this character may have, talk about what Shakespeare is trying to represent with a character/scene/conflict like this.

Part Two (5 points): Test your creative spirit and accompany your essay with an 8x10 picture of this visual line. Must be in color and must include specific details that symbolize the line most accurately.
